Screening of Daughters of Mother India, Winner of the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues, awarded by the President of India.
Daughters of Mother India is a powerful documentary film which examines the aftermath of the rape and murder of a 23-year-old medical student in Delhi in December 2012. For weeks, nationwide protests filled the streets of India. The country witnessed un-precedented gender consciousness and extraordinary solidarity by ordinary citizens. The eyes of the world were on India and stories about violence against women in India were hitting global headlines almost on a daily basis.
Although an Anti-Rape Law was passed and radical changes were made within the police force and the judiciary, gender violence still persists. In this documentary, Indian journalist and award-winning filmmaker Vibha Bakshi questions how Indian society is changing after the 2012 events.
Vibha Bakshi, Filmmaker and Producer will take audience questions after the film.
Reception follows.
