Please join Asia Society for a discussion with His Excellency Dr. José Ramos-Horta, former President of East Timor. From poverty, nuclear weapons, religious and ethnic tensions, border disputes, to peace and prosperity, Dr. Horta will share his insights on the challenges in peace-making and peace-building in Asia. The program will be moderated by Ameerah Haq, UN Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Field Support and former Special Representative of the Secretary-General for East Timor.
Dr. José Ramos-Horta, President (2007-2012), Prime Minister (2006-2007), Foreign Minister (2001-2006), Nobel Peace Prize Laureate (1996), presided over his country's dramatic recovery from conflict in 2006 to peace and growth. He also writes occasionally on international conflicts. His insightful opinion articles on East Timor, Burma, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, can be found in the New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, The Daily Beast, and Huffington Post.
