The Botany of Desire - Film Screening

The Botany of Desire - Film Screening

The Botany of Desire. (Ruth Dundas)

Flowers. Trees. Plants. We've always thought that we controlled them. But what if, in fact, they have been shaping us? Using this provocative question as a jumping off point, The Botany of Desire (scheduled for broadcast on PBS on October 28) takes us on an eye-opening exploration of our relationship with the plant world ' seen from the plants' point of view. Based on Michael Pollan's best-selling book and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Michael Schwarz, the film links our fundamental desires for sweetness, beauty, intoxication and control with the plants that gratify them ' the apple, the tulip, marijuana (all of which have roots in Central Asia) and the potato. Join us for this screening and a provocative discussion of the film with Pollan and Schwarz.
