What threats are emerging within the region, and among its major trading partners in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, that could thwart the region's recovery? How should policy makers confront these challenges?
Jong-Wha Lee, Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank, will address these issues and others at the launch of the Asian Development Outlook 2010 (ADO), ADB's flagship economic publication. It includes comprehensive economic analysis of more than 40 economies in developing Asia and the Pacific. The ADO examines the medium-term prospects for developing Asia, by country and by sub region'East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central, and West Asia and the Pacific.
This year's ADO special theme chapter, "Macroeconomic Management Beyond The Crisis," explores how authorities in developing Asia can effectively manage their macroeconomic policies for sustained growth in the aftermath of the global financial crisis and economic downturn. The chapter will touch on issues such as monetary policy frameworks, exchange rate regimes, fiscal sustainability, and the use of macroeconomic policy tools to help rebalance the region's growth.

Jong-Wha Lee is the Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank. He is the chief spokesperson for ADB on economic forecasts and trends, and oversees the Economics and Research Department (ERD). ERD does economics and policy research and capacity building, supports ADB operations, and networks with the international research community. He worked as Economist at the International Monetary Fund and taught at Harvard University as a Visiting Professor. Dr. Lee served as a consultant to the Harvard Institute for International Development, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank. Dr. Lee also was a member of the National Economic Advisory Council in the Republic of Korea. Dr. Lee, a national of the Republic of Korea, obtained his Ph.D. and Master's degree in Economics from Harvard University, and his Master's and Bachelor degrees in Economics from Korea University in Seoul.
