Asian American Designer: Richard Tsao, Thai Silk Fashions
Designer appearance 12:00-3:30 pm
Born and raised in Bangkok, Chinese-American Richard Tsao cultivated an early appreciation for tailoring and fine silks from his mother's array of custom-made cheongsam dresses. Inspired by the exquisite beauty of Thai silk and the way it illuminates the wearer, his simple, classic designs incorporate subtle details from Southeast Asian and Chinese traditional garments. Richard's rich jewel-tone palette is evocative of the rich tropical hues of his native Thailand. The silk used for his designs is hand-woven from hand-spun silk yarn on old-fashioned looms, the painstaking process resulting in a lustrous fabric with a luxurious texture. This artisanal quality and attention to detail is part of Thailand's rich arts and crafts tradition, to which Richard feels deeply connected.
