G-20 Post-Crisis, Guarding Against a US-Asia Divide
"G-20 leaders will struggle to be both effective and also legitimate in leading a way through the recent financial crisis,” says Asia Society Associate Fellow Simon Tay, following meetings over the weekend among leaders of the Group of 20 major economies. “Although the nature of the crisis has changed, it is far from over and is instead evolving with Euro-zone uncertainties and a soft U.S. recovery. It will be essential to involve Asia (and not just China) and try to minimize friction with the U.S. Otherwise, post-crisis efforts will have to deal with economic and political uncertainties at the same time."
Simon, who is in Singapore, is author of “Asia Alone: The Dangerous Post-Crisis Divide from America.” To arrange an interview, contact the Asia Society communications department at 212-327-9271 or [email protected].
