“As the tension points in U.S.-China relations, from Google to the renminbi, continue to be stressed, the need for extensive channels of dialogue between not only the two capitals, but also the two countries, has never been clearer. Thus far, conflicts have been more or less contained, but threat of escalation to the point of systemic conflict, fueled by antagonistic public opinion on both sides of the Pacific, is an ever-present danger,” says John Delury, Associate Director of Asia Society’s Center on U.S. China Relations.
