Ian Bremmer Joins Asia Society Policy Institute as First Harold J. Newman Distinguished Fellow in Geopolitics
New York, May 27, 2015 — Ian Bremmer, President and Founder of the Eurasia Group, has joined the Asia Society Policy Institute as its first Harold J. Newman Distinguished Fellow in Geopolitics.
“Ian Bremmer has an outstanding analytic mind and a natural intellectual curiosity about the world, and is deeply globally connected,” said the Honorable Kevin Rudd, President of the Asia Society Policy Institute. “The Asia Society Policy Institute, therefore, welcomes a first-class addition to our team.”
Bremmer has authored nine books, including the recently published Superpower: Three Choices for America’s Role in the World and the national bestseller Every Nation for Itself: Winners and Losers in a G-Zero World. Bremmer earned a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University in 1994 and was the youngest-ever national fellow at the Hoover Institution. In 2007, Bremmer was named a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. He founded Eurasia Group in 1998.
“I am delighted to be joining the Asia Society Policy Institute,” said Bremmer. “Asia’s rise has profoundly altered the global order and the relationships between the world’s great powers and its major regions. I welcome this opportunity to contribute to the Asia Society Policy Institute’s efforts to foster greater regional cooperation in Asia and to engage Asia in managing the tensions and risks that it faces in common with the world.”
With a problem-solving mandate, the Asia Society Policy Institute tackles major policy challenges confronting the Asia-Pacific in security, prosperity, sustainability, and the development of common norms and values for the region. The institute builds on the mission of the Asia Society, which has sought for 60 years to explain the diversity of Asia to the United States and the complexity of the United States to Asia, and to be a bridge in problem-solving within the region and between Asia and the wider world.
The Harold J. Newman Distinguished Fellowship in Geopolitics was established in 2015 with the generous support of Harold J. Newman, a trustee of the Asia Society. The fellowship is designed to expand the Asia Society Policy Institute’s access to expert insights on geopolitical trends and policy developments related to Asia’s increasing influence on the global stage.
