About the Speaker:
Seoul-based Englishman Andrew Salmon is a journalist, broadcaster and author.
He holds BA in History and Comparative Literature from the University of Kent and an MA in Asia Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
A resident of Seoul since 1998, he is France24’s English correspondent in Seoul and covers the Koreas for Forbes, The Nikkei Asian Review and The South China Morning Post and writes his biweekly “Lack of Morning Calm” column for The Korea Times.
Published Works: Seoul Food Finder (Seoul, 2000); American Business and the Korean Miracle: US Enterprises in Korea, 1866 – The Present (Seoul, 2004); To the Last Round: The Epic British Stand on the Imjin River, Korea, 1951 (London, 2009); Scorched Earth, Black Snow: Britain and Australia in the Korean War, 1950 (London, 2011); Modern Korea: All That Matters (London/New York 2014).
To the Last Round was named “Military Book of the Year” in the UK in 2009. In 2010, it was recommended as “One of the Top 10 Books on Korea” by The Wall St Journal, and won a “Korean Wave” award at the ROK National Assembly in Seoul.
In 2016, Andrew was made an MBE (Member of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to British veterans of the Korean War.
Andrew is a Council Member of the Royal Asiatic Society’s Korea branch. His interests include history, martial arts and ale.
