Christopher Heider
Christopher Heider has been the Secretary General of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea since 2013. He was the former Chief Financial Officer for Bayer Korea Ltd. in Seoul and Regional Manager of Bayer AG Legal Entity Accounting Asia Pacific Division in Germany. Heider had worked for Bayer Ltd. in Tokyo since 1996 having arrived in Japan as a teacher shortly before.
Heider graduated with an Intermediate Diploma in Economics from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany in 1988 before going on to complete his Diploma in Business Economics from the University of Mannheim in 1991. He then went on to finish a Postgraduate Program in Japanese from the University of Tuebingen in Germany and Doshisha University in Japan in 1996.
Heider’s honorary assignments include being a board member of the Heart to Heart Foundation in Seoul, South Korea, European Business Organization Worldwide Network in Brussels, Belgium, and Heider-Kober Foundation in Munich, Germany.
Heider currently lives in Korea with his wife and 1 daughter.
Seoyoung Chae
Seoyoung Chae is a Professor at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea where she teaches Sociolinguistics in the Department of English Language and Literature. Prior to joining the faculty at Sogang University in 2000, she taught Linguistics at various universities in Seoul including Ewha Womans University, Hanyang University, and Sungkyunkwan University.
Before being drawn to Sociolinguistics, Chae had worked for the producers of TV programs such as NBC News and the Today Show. Although exciting and fun, her brief stint in the broadcasting world did not satisfy her ongoing curiosity of humans and their language and therefore she pursued her PhD at the University of Pennsylvania receiving scholarship from the Rotary Foundation.
At present she is a member of the Sociolinguistic Society of Korea as well as the Society for English Language Education. She is a co-author of many books including, Introduction to English Linguistics, How to Write Messages and Letters, and Korea's Calling Terms and the Korean Society. She has served as the Editor of Sogang Herald, Department Chair, Chair of the Graduate School of Education, and Graduate Chair of the English Linguistics Program at Sogang University.
Chae is particularly interested in how Korea’s evolving social system is reflected in its language.
Mark Tetto
Mark Tetto is Managing Partner and co-founder of The Ventures, a new venture capital firm based in Korea to invest in and incubate both Korean and overseas startups. He is also concurrently serving as CFO for Korea-based startup Vingle, a global interest-based community and contents service.
Prior to this, Tetto worked for Samsung Electronics in Korea where he was a Senior Manager in the Corporate Strategic Planning Team from 2010 to 2014. Before moving to Korea, Tetto was based in New York and London for 3 years working for Morgan Stanley as an Associate in the Investment Banking Division. From 2002 to 2004, he was Supervisor and General Manager for McMaster-Carr in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Princeton University in 2002, and with a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2007 where he was a recipient of the Joseph Wharton Merit Scholarship for academic and professional excellence.
Tetto is conversational in Korean, and lists Korean culture as one of his interests.
