NEW YORK, Sept. 4, 2007 - By 2030, worldwide demand for energy will increase by 50%. China and India are already getting 70% of their energy from coal and other environmentally damaging fossil fuels. But innovation may resolve this dilemma. Iin Japan, for example, technology exists that will cut its CO2 emissions in 2050 even lower than they were in 1990 - and with only a tenth of a percent increase in energy costs. Wind power alone is already capable of completely satisfying China's needs.
Energy experts in this Asia Society panel discussion explored various technologies utilized by different countries would increase output without increasing pollution or cost, the best ways to wean the world economy entirely off oil in the future, political strategies to ensure government support for innovation, and where individual corporations and captains of industry will fit into the energy industry's new world order.
