In the decades since its creation, Pakistan has witnessed a transition between three constitutions, multiple leaders, regimes and several wars - yet, it is believed that perseverance, endurance and resilience are the hallmark of the nation. Join Christophe Jaffrelot, Research Director, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, as he separates facts from fiction and discusses the intricacies of Pakistan's recent history with Jayant Prasad, Advisor, Foreign Policy Programs, Delhi Policy Group in a conversation moderated by senior journalist Meena Menon.
Dr. Christophe Jaffrelot is the Research Director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and, Senior Research Fellow at CERI at Sciences Po (Paris), Professor of Indian Politics and Sociology at the King's India Institute (London) and Global Scholar at Princeton University. He has been visiting professor at Columbia University, Yale and SAIS (Johns Hopkins). His latest publication is 'The Pakistan Paradox: Instability and Resilience'.
Ambassador Jayant Prasad is an Advisor, Foreign Policy Programs, Delhi Policy Group and Visiting Fellow, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS). He was previously India's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Algeria, Nepal, and the UN Conference on Disarmament, Geneva. He also served as Rapporteur of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights; a Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs; member of U.N. Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters, and Visiting Scholar, Center for the Advanced Study of India, University of Pennsylvania.
Meena Menon is a senior journalist and former Chief of Bureau, The Hindu, Mumbai. She was the paper's Pakistan correspondent in 2013-14. Menon has been writing on politics and development issues including environment, women, human rights, and health and has worked with the United News of India, Mid-day and The Times of India. She has authored books such as 'Riots and After in Mumbai: Chronicles of Truth and Reconciliation'.
