MEMBERS ONLY: A Visual History of Modern Art - Highlights of the India Art Fair
VIEW EVENT DETAILSJoin Asia Society India Centre for a special preview designed for members-only, in conversation with Kishore Singh; head of exhibitions and publications, Delhi Art Gallery, and Abhay Sardesai; Editor of ART India, to celebrate the Gallery's new show that brings to Mumbai highlights from their pavilion at the India Art Fair. The short talk will be followed by a guided walkthrough the works of M.F. Husain, F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, Krishen Khanna, Jamini Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, Rabin Mondal, Akbar Padamsee and Tyeb Mehta among others, as members get a first look at works of Indian modern art in a range of themes, idioms, styles and genres, exhibiting a comprehensive view of the progress and catalysts in Indian modernism.
Abhay Sardesai has been the Editor of ART India, the premier art magazine of India, since November 2002. Under his editorship, the magazine has developed a Culture Studies-oriented approach and has become more inter-disciplinary in its theme-based explorations. He has been a Visiting Faculty in Aesthetics at the Department of English, University of Mumbai, and has also been the Chair of Humanities, Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture, Mumbai. He teaches at TISS, the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum and the Drama School, Mumbai. He writes in English and translates from Marathi, Konkani and Gujarati.He has written widely on Art and Literature and read from his work at various places including the University of Princeton, University of Cambridge, Mumbai University, S.N.D.T. University and NGMA, among other places.
Kishore Singh has been a journalist, editor and columnist for three decades for Indian and international newspapers and magazines including GQ, Outlook Business, Business Standard and Business World. He has written scripts for documentary films, and is author and editor of a large number of books. As head of exhibitions and publications at Delhi Art Gallery currently, he is responsible for the research team that documents and curates exhibitions for the institution's historic shows in New Delhi and Mumbai, each of which is accompanied by significant art books on the art history of the country.
