Humour and Society, with Vir Das
VIEW EVENT DETAILSJoin leading actor and comedian Vir Das — of History of India and Delhi Belly fame — for an interactive evening in appreciation of how comedy can help us make sense of and come to terms with our society. By sharing insights into the process of crafting his comic routines and interspersing comic bits, Das will explore how comedy is woven into every aspect of our understanding and perception, rather than a luxury that we can choose to indulge in.
Vir Das is an actor and stand-up comedian. He began his career as a comedian, as a cast member in three sketch comedy troupes in the U.S. —The Really Useless Improv, Improv Inc, and Illegal Aliens. On returning to India, he has performed over 100 comedy shows in all of the major cities. Vir has hosted two TV shows on Zoom Channel, and he also hosts his own news comedy show, News on the Loose, on CNBC-TV18. He began filming for his first two Bollywood roles in early 2006 and can be seen in Vipul Shah's hit movie Namastey London and more recently in 2011's Delhi Belly. He obtained a Bachelor's degree from Knox College, Illinois in Economics & Theatre with a concentration in Performance. After graduating from Knox, Vir was accepted into Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts for their Stanislavsky Program in coalition with the Moscow Arts Theatre.
This programme falls under AsiaBuzz, a networking series designed to showcase experts from diverse backgrounds in an evening of drinks, discussions, and exchanges.
