'Advice & Dissent: My Life in Policy Making' by Yaga Venugopal Reddy

Yaga Venugopal Reddy, known as the "Little Master" of Indian banking, is a celebrated economist, an Indian Administrative Services top ranker, a successful bureaucrat and the former deputy governor and governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). As RBI Chief from 2003 to 2008, Dr. Reddy oversaw a period of high growth, low inflation and a build-up of foreign exchange reserves coupled with a steady rupee and a robust central banking system that withstood the global financial crisis. From starting his life in Paturi village in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh to fulfilling his father’s dream of becoming a successful bureaucrat, Dr. Reddy’s life has been an inspiring journey of personal triumphs and a fascinating professional career. Preceded by his autobiography My Reflections or Naa Gnapakalu, written in Telugu, his new book, Advice & Dissent — My Life in Policy Making throws light on Dr. Reddy’s tryst with the Ministry of Finance, the pressures of working at the top levels of government, and of helming the Reserve Bank of India and handling contentious policy issues. The programme will be presided over by Vinod Rai, 11th Comptroller and Auditor General of India and joined by Viral Acharya, deputy governor, RBI, Dr. Ashok Shekhar Ganguly, former director of the Central Board of the RBI and Amish Tripathi, author. Dr. Reddy will give remarks on the book.
Dr Yaga Venugopal (Y.V.) Reddy was Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2003 to 2008. He was Chairman of the Fourteenth Finance Commission in 2013-14. Previously, he worked in the Government of India as Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and in the Government of Andhra Pradesh as Principal Secretary. He is also a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award. Currently, he is Honorary Professor at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies in Hyderabad
