Artplosive Connect Talk Series
HONG KONG, June 5, 2017 — This special screening of the documentary Souls of the Vermilion Sea, created by Wild Lens, aimed to raise awareness and community motivation on the struggle to save two unique wildlife species only found in the northern part of the Gulf of California in Mexico — the vaquita and the totoaba — both facing extinction largely due to illegal fishing driven by demand for the latter’s swim bladder.
“This is an effort between several governments, but it’s also an effort with civil society and NGOs…This is something that needs to be highlighted…,” said Damián Martínez Tagüeña, Consul General of Mexico in Hong Kong and Macau. (47 min.)
