Video: A New Era in U.S.-China Relations?
HONG KONG, May 16, 2017 — In a conversation moderated by Co-Chair of Asia Society Ronnie C. Chan, editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report, Charles E. Cook, and dean of the Yenching Academy at Peking University, Yuan Ming, discussed U.S-China trade and political relations, the ongoing challenges facing the Trump administration, and how both countries view the threat of North Korea.
"Americans tend to think that if China just snapped its fingers that the North Korean problem would go away. Well, obviously it’s not quite that simple … I think President Trump has learned these issues are a heck of a lot more complicated than it appeared on cable television a year or two years ago," Cook said.
This discussion was part of the 11th Ambassador Burton Levin Lecture Series, which is intended to facilitate, broaden and enrich dialogue about U.S.-Asian relations and intra-Asian relations. (1 hr. 53 min.)
