Video: An evening with Bombay Jayashri
HONG KONG, January 25, 2017 — Carnatic vocalist and composer Bombay Jayashri Ramnath gave an exclusive performance at Asia Society Hong Kong Center that coincided with the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities. This performance was joined by Dr. Ramnath’s son and student Amrit Ramnath on supporting vocals and the tanbur, Mysore Srikanth on the violin, Manoj Siva on the Mridangam, and percussion artist B. S. Purushotham. The evening’s repertoire featured Dr. Ramnath’s wide range of accomplishments, including the Oscar-nominated work Pi’s Lullaby from the blockbuster movie Life of Pi. As with most Indian classical music performances, the final section of the performance was a free improvisation for the audience. (1 hr., 44 min.)
