Philippines' Road to Recovery
HONG KONG, September 22, 2014 — The destructive typhoon Haiyan left horrible devastation to Philippines while rehabilitation efforts still go on after eleven months. Focusing on the issue of reconstructing process, Asia Society Hong Kong Center held an evening panel discussion with Felipe M. De Leon, Jr., Chairman and Commissioner for the Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Raquel Hopton, Innovations Manager in Manila for International Care Ministries, Gwendolyn Pang, Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross.
Moderated by Alexandra A. Seno, Managing Partner in Hong Kong for AXS Asia Partners, the discussion shared the opinions of how to rebuild the Philippines communities after the disaster. “We have to build infrastructure that should be adapting the change of the climate.” Said Pang, who reiterated that the Red Cross aims at building a resilient community and is helping local people to command the skills and build their homes safer on their own in the future.
