The Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival is known for more than its world class artists and intimate performances. Every year, the Festival also includes an extraordinary Outreach and Education Program designed to inspire both concert goers and music students.
The Outreach & Education Program for the 2015 Festival features an incredible range of events, all free to the public. Asia Society Hong Kong Center is proud to be the Outreach Program Partner, hosting more than ten events in the Miller Theater, including free concerts, conversation with artists, music appreciation lectures, chamber music coaching and instrumental masterclasses.
There is no charge for any of the Outreach events, but registration is required.

This year’s Festival Outreach & Education Artist Leo Phillips is joined by two of Hong Kong’s best chamber musicians - Richard Bamping (cello) and Warren Lee (piano) - for a lovely morning interlude featuring Beethoven’s very first composition (Piano Trio Op 1 No 1) and Brahms’ beloved B major trio. "How to be an Active Listener": Music Appreciation Talk by Maureen Buja
Using the Mozart Clarinet Quintet as a model, Dr. Maureen Buja will show you how to hear details in music so that you can do more than just be a passive audience member. This lecture will help you understand the clues that the composer is giving you. You will develop your listening skills and gain access to music’s inner meaning.

Inside Chamber Music: Beethoven's Piano Trio Op 70 No. 1 "The Ghost
This is a streamed lecture from distinguished composer and radio personality, Bruce Adolphe, delivered in New York City for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln's Center. The featured piece is Beethoven: Piano Trio in D, Op. 70, No. 1 "Ghost", with musical excerpts performed by Gilbert Kalish (piano), Areta Zhulla (violin) and Mihai Marica (cello).
The piece will be performed by Cho-Liang Lin, Clive Greensmith and Orion Weiss in the Festival’s Opening Night: Viennese Soirée on Wed Jan 14th. [Register Now]

Chamber Music Coaching with Leo Phillips
The Chamber Music Coaching workshops combine a performance platform for chamber music players with constructive comments by Outreach & Education Artist Leo Phillips. Each performing group will play one movement of an ensemble work and Mr Phillips will provide feedback and coaching for the group. Renowned music expert Dennis Wu will describe the evolution of chamber music, from Beethoven to Schoenberg, with musical examples.

Free Concert: "Celebration of Local Chamber Music"
Hong Kong’s acclaimed quartet, the RTHK Quartet, will feature in this free chamber music performance. They will play Schubert’s Quartetssatz, followed by Brahms Quintet in B minor Op 115 together with Andrew Ling, principal violist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. [Register Now]

Kathryn Stott is internationally recognized as one of Britain’s most versatile and imaginative musicians, and is in high demand for a wide variety of chamber music alliances. Up Close & Personal: A Convesation with Wu Han
Wu Han was named Musical America's 2012 Musician of the Year, together with her husband David Finckel (formerly of the Emerson Quartet). Leading an unusually multifaceted career, she has risen to international prominence through her wide-ranging activities as a concert performer, recording artist, educator, arts administrator, and cultural entrepreneur. She is currently the co-Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Chamber Music Today in Korea, and Music@Menlo in California.

This is a streamed lecture from distinguished composer and radio personality, Bruce Adolphe, delivered in New York City for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln’s Center. Violin Masterclass - Leo Phillips
Leo Philips studied with Sandor Vegh, Dorothy DeLay and Shmuel Ashkenasi and has since appeared as soloist with many orchestras worldwide. He co-founded the Vellinger Quartet and was Leader of London’s Nash Ensemble. He has toured extensively, appeared at many international music festivals, and has made many acclaimed recordings and broadcasts.
He has performed as Leader/Concertmaster of more than thirty world-renowned orchestras including The London Philharmonic, The Chamber Orchestra of Europe and The Hong Kong Philharmonic, As conductor Leo performs regularly with orchestras in Thailand and several other Asian countries.
As teacher and chamber music coach, Leo has enjoyed teaching at many prestigious educational institutions in Europe, The US, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. [Register Now]
