Nara-Inspired Master Class Teaches Expressive Power of Illustration
HONG KONG, June 6, 2015 – As part of the education programs organized around The Hong Kong Jockey Club Presents “Life is Only One: Yoshitomo Nara” exhibition, the Asia Society Hong Kong Center held an illustration master class by Wilson Shieh, one of the most important and best-known contemporary artists in Hong Kong. Shieh discussed various illustration techniques under the theme “Life is Only One,” to convey to participants the expressiveness of illustration.
Wilson Shieh, as an expert in Chinese classical painting, demonstrated claborate-style painting techniques, in which he employed traditional fine brushwork to depict contemporary topics. Using Shieh’s techniques, participants each created a self-portrait of his own childhood from old photographs.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club presents “Life is Only One: Yoshitomo Nara” is the first major solo exhibition of the renowned Japanese artist in Hong Kong. The exhibition is runs until 26th July, 2015 at Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
