In today’s increasingly complex and interconnected world, higher education must respond to society’s need for graduates who have not only the skill sets to succeed in professional careers, but also a broad and nuanced perspective on critical issues, and the ability to play an active role in their communities. Tufts University President, Anthony P. Monaco will discuss how colleges and universities can integrate these goals into education in innovative ways, preparing students for future leadership in society.
Anthony P. Monaco is the thirteenth President of Tufts University. He holds faculty appointments as a Professor of biology in the School of Arts and Sciences and as a Professor of neuroscience at Tufts University School of Medicine. A distinguished geneticist, he has made significant contributions in human genetics, including identifying the gene specifically involved in human speech and language. Prior to joining Tufts, President Monaco was Professor of human genetics and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Planning and Resources at Oxford University. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, his Ph.D. in neurobiology from Harvard University, and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School.
