The critical importance of energy security and the need to mitigate climate change are at the forefront of the global agenda, and will remain there for many years to come. Dr. Christoph Frei, Secretary-General of the World Energy Council (WEC) will present the findings of WEC’s recently completed survey of over 90 national member organizations which presents a unique snapshot of the global energy agenda and recent changes in global priorities. Building on this insight, he will discuss key global drivers, including the implications of the recent nuclear tragedy in Fukushima and the impact of major technological and commercial development of unconventional sources of hydrocarbons.
The WEC’s mission is to promote wise and sustainable development and use of energy for all. Dr. Frei became its youngest Secretary-General in 2009. He is Adjunct Professor and Advisor to the President of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Energy Security.
Before joining the WEC, Dr. Frei was Senior Director, Energy Industries and Policy at the World Economic Forum and a member of its Executive Council. He received his PhD in energy policy analysis and sustainable development from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
