Kate Goodwin, curator of The New British Inventors: Inside Heatherwick Studio, will provide a guided tour of the exhibition, showcasing the inner workings of British artist and inventor, Thomas Heatherwick. Thomas Heatherwick set up Heatherwick Studio in 1994, establishing a unique design practice with a spirit of discovery and invention at its heart, and placing the Studio at the forefront of a wave of New British Inventors. Offering a unique insight into the work of Heatherwick Studio, Kate Goodwin aims to provide a fascinating insight into Heatherwick Studio’s exploration of new ideas, materials, techniques and processes. This guided tour will uncover the innovative and original methods used by the studios team to complete small to massive scale projects that capture popular imagination and represent significant urban interventions. The exhibition is co-presented by the British Council, the GREAT Britain campaign and PMQ, with Swire Properties and KEF as the lead partners.
Kate Goodwin is Head of Architecture and Drue Heinz Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts. Most recently she curated the renowned exhibition Sensing Spaces: Architecture Reimagined, (January –April 2014) in the Main Galleries of the Royal Academy. She has also curated the exhibitions Constructed Landscapes (2011), Relics of Old London: Photography and the spirit of the city (2010), Andrea Palladio through the eyes of contemporary architects (2009) and Paper City: Urban Utopias (2009). She is author of Dandelion: the making of the UK pavilion (2011) a book about Thomas Heatherwick’s UK pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo.
