On the occasion of the publication of her new memoir, The Bee and the Acorn (Assouline Publishing), President Paula Wallace shares the remarkable story behind the creation of the most revered and comprehensive art and design university in the world. SCAD started in Savannah, GA USA in 1978 with an initial enrollment of 71 students in one building. Today the university is a global network of 45,000 student and alumni, with locations in Savannah and Atlanta, GA, Lacoste (France) and Hong Kong. As “The University for Creative Careers”, SCAD is proud that 97 percent of its alumni are employed or pursuing further education within ten months of graduation.
President Wallace will be available for book signing after the presentation.
Paula Wallace is the president and founder of the Savannah College of Art and Design, a private, nonprofit, accredited university for creative careers. Established in 1978, SCAD is the largest, most comprehensive art and design university in the world, with locations in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia; Lacoste, France; and Hong Kong; as well as an award-winning eLearning program. Since her appointment as president in 2000, President Wallace has led the university in unprecedented growth, more than doubling enrollment to over 12,000 students hailing from 100-plus countries. President Wallace created many of the university's most popular annual events, including the Savannah Film Festival, SCAD deFINE ART, SCADstyle, Sidewalk Arts Festival, and SCAD aTVfest.
