This family workshop will focus on the site-specific artwork Xu Bing created for his current exhibition on show at Asia Society Hong Kong Center- Background Story. Xu Bing deconstructed and transformed a classical Chinese landscape painting with light and discarded materials such as tree twigs, dried leaves, and torn paper. Join our My Mini Background Story family workshop, and learn how you may also create your mini version of the artwork at home with your children!
Crafted as an opportunity for quality family time, the workshop encourages dialogues in families and nurtures creativity in children and adults alike. Designed for families with children aged 3-6, each family workshop will begin with an interactive gallery tour led by experienced museum educators, followed by creative, hands-on activities for children to explore the gallery and exhibition with their parents or caregivers.
About the exhibition:
Curated by Dr. Yeewan Koon, “It Begins with Metamorphosis: Xu Bing” is the first major solo exhibition of Xu Bing in Hong Kong featuring some of the latest artworks by this renowned artist. This exhibition shows how metamorphosis marks the beginning of a process that brings insights to Xu Bing and his art. Through the transformative power of materiality and communication, concepts of memories and histories are reenacted, challenged and reflected. Far from being a retrospective look at the past, Xu Bing shows how concepts and values of time are fundamental to our lives today.
