Breakfast Briefing with Tom Dixon, British Designer
8am - 9.30am
*Business attire is required. No jeans or sport shoes.
How far can sheer creativity take you? British furniture and interiors designer Tom Dixon started his design journey with talent and drive and now his name is globally renowned, both for his design and as a brand. In this session he will talk about the growth of the one-man-brand in design, and how he ensures his particular "fingerprint" of style translates throughout all the work of his studio. Using examples of recent projects like the interior design of the new Mondrian hotel in London, he will also share his experiences of working and manufacturing for different markets, explaining the models of local production necessary to maintain a global business presence.
Tom Dixon OBE is an internationally renowned British Designer. Infamously 'self-taught', Tom rose to prominence in the mid 1980's going on to work for global design giants including Italian brand, Cappellini. In 2000 Tom's work was recognised by the award of an OBE from Her Majesty the Queen. Tom set up the Tom Dixon brand in 2002, creatively directing the lighting and furniture brand and also Design Research Studio, the interior design practice within the business, specialises in high concept interiors, large scale installations and architectural design. In September 2014, Design Research Studio completed their first ever hotel project, Sea Containers Mondrian London, in collaboration with US hotel giant Morgan's Hotel Group.
Established in 2002, Tom Dixon's brand is on a mission to design, illuminate and furnish the future with innovative lighting, furniture and accessories of longevity, simplicity and a materiality inspired by Britain's unique heritage. New collections of lighting and furniture are launched bi-annually at the Milan Salone and London Design Festival with product sold across 65 countries. In 2012 their new accessories range launched, a collection of accessories, gifts and design objects. New collections are shown biannually at Maison & Objet in Paris.
