HONG KONG, 10th June 2015 – An evening concert was held for the performance of the Philippine Madrigal Singers (MADz) on the Wednesday performing a wide repertoire of styles and forms. Program included renaissance music, Filipino and international folksongs, opera and even popular music.
MADz was established in 1963 by National Artist Professor Andrea O. Veneracion, and is now one of the most heralded choirs in the world. The group had won top prizes in numerous prestigious choral competitions, at Arezzo and Gorizia in Italy, Marktoberdorf in Germany, Spittal in Austria, and Neuchatel in Switzerland, just to name a few. It is also the first choir to win the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing twice (1997 and 2007).
The performance was followed by a Q&A session led by the choirmaster Mark Anthony Carpio, who is acknowledged as one of the most reputable experts in the field of choral music among the younger set of Filipino conductors. Audience enjoyed a musical evening with the compositions and choral rearrangments of Filipino, Asian and international songs performed by MADz.
