Before Giving Thanks, Consider Giving to the Philippines
Join Asia Society's Corporate Sponsors in Sending Aid to Survivors of Typhoon Haiyan
NOVEMBER 27, 2013 — As many in the U.S. prepare to sit down for Thanksgiving meals this week, Asia Society encourages you to remember those in the Philippines still lacking the basic essentials due to Typhoon Haiyan. To contribute to recovery efforts in the Philippines, go to Asia Society's list of charities and nongovernmental organizations responding to the disaster.
The needs are many in the Philippines and there is a long way to go before everyone has access to aid. Many of Asia Society’s corporate sponsors have exhibited concern and generosity for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan and ongoing recovery efforts in the Philippines. Some of the impactful ways these corporations are helping include:
• Medtronic has offered use of its Disaster Relief Paid Timeoff volunteer program for employees to have up to five paid days off to volunteer in support of disaster relief in the Philippines.
• Abbott, the Estee Lauder Companies, GE, L’Oreal, and Pfizer have provided antibiotics, nutritionals, water treatment equipment, sanitation supplies, and other critical goods.
• Citi’s ASEAN equities business donated all commissions from equity sales and trading operations in ASEAN on November 13 to the Philippine Red Cross.
• Wells Fargo temporarily waived ExpressSend remittance fees for eligible customers sending money to the Philippines.
Asia Society would like to thank our corporate sponsors for their help, which include: AARP and the AARP Foundation, Abbott and the Abbott Fund, BNY Mellon, Citi and the Citi Foundation, Credit Suisse, the Estee Lauder Companies, GE and the GE Foundation, HSBC, L’Oreal, Marriott International, Marsh and McLennan, Medtronic, New York Life, Pfizer, Reed Smith, Sony Corporation, Standard Chartered, Time Warner, Toyota, and Wells Fargo have all given cash contributions and many are offering matching contributions for employee donations.
Asia Society is proud to be part of such a generous community that is committed to helping the Philippines in this time of need.
