Vivien Stewart talks with WNYC's Leonard Lopate about why American students are falling behind their Asian peers in math and science achievement as well as foreign language acquisition, and new ways American schools are rising to the challenge and creating opportunities for all students--especially those in economically disadvantaged areas--to find success in a global economy.

The featured schools and programs are recipients of the Goldman Sachs Foundation Prizes for Excellence in International Education. Here, the honorees discuss successful aspects of their programs and practical advice for others who are starting out. The interviews are contducted by Vivien Stewart, vice president for education; Shari Albright, chief academic officer; and Alexis Menten, senior program associate.
