2012 National Chinese Language Conference

Conference website

NCLC is the largest annual gathering of practitioners, policymakers, and school leaders with an interest in Chinese language teaching and learning in North America, and a key venue for bringing together U.S. and Chinese educators in the field.

Since 2008 and the first NCLC, attendance has increased steadily. The growth of this conference has mirrored a growing awareness about the importance of preparing students for a globalized world.

2012 will mark NCLC’s 5th anniversary, an appropriate opportunity to reflect on the State of the Field – the past, the present, and the future of Chinese language education. The number of Chinese language and culture programs has grown rapidly in the past years, and this is an opportune time to focus on the needs and strategies for building sustainable, well-articulated programs, which result in a high level of language proficiency for students. This year’s conference theme aptly considers the State of the Field: Proficiency, Sustainability, and Beyond.

Join us in DC and take part in this important national discussion. By attending the 5th annual NCLC, you will find the answers to these and other questions:

  • Where do Chinese language programs look for continued funding and sustainability?
  • How can my school enhance language learning through international exchanges and partnerships?
  • What can higher education and K–12 do to improve articulation?
  • Where are the successful models for Chinese immersion and early language learning?
  • How can a Chinese language program be a driver for student achievement across the curriculum?

We look forward to your participation and contribution!
