Christina Burton Howe
Christina Burton Howe is Chief Executive Officer and founder of the Global Village Charter Collaborative (GVCC), a nonprofit, public charter management organization dedicated to K–12 language immersion. GVCC serves 5 charters schools in Colorado, the Global Village Academy (GVA) Aurora, Northglenn, Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, and Douglas County. Over 4,000 students study Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, German, French, and Swahili. GVA kindergarten students are immersed for 100% of the day, first and second grade students for 80% of the day, and third through 12th grade students for 50% to 20% of the day in their chosen language. Howe has served as Project Director for STARTALK, FLAP, and the Asia Society's Confucius Classrooms. She has worked in public education for over 20 years, with 13 years as professor of Philosophy at the university level and 14 years teaching and administration at K–12 levels. She has expertise in charter school development and school turnaround, having started 9 charter schools.
