NEW YORK - Microfinance is becoming a global phenomenon, and its success is changing the way we deal with poverty. Giving poor people the chance to escape poverty by building their income and assets though business loans, savings, insurance and other financial services also enables communities to become self-sufficient and less reliant on development aid.

In a globalized world, women from all parts of the world are leading the way to eliminate poverty and create sustainable development—as exemplified by a panel discussion at the Asia Society that explored the different ways in which microfinance is being conducted worldwide, through the eyes of experts from three continents.
