The China Boom Project is a multimedia research, public education, and oral history project designed to find the explore the question “Why did China boom?“ by recording the collective wisdom of our moment.

Beginning in 2008, China Boom Project researchers taped interviews with individuals who possess unique insights into China’s Boom. They come from all walks of life. Many are leading participants in or observers of China’s economic miracle who can share insight on those aspects of China’s growth they know best. The result is a mosaic explanation, painted in the words of those who have watched it most carefully.

This interactive website presents a guided tour of China’s three decades of “reform and opening“ based on selections from the interview archive. Geared toward an audience of specialists and general public alike, China Boom will be a resource for researchers in decades to come.

It seems that you have accidentally bumped into something real, that is, just similarly as Mr. Deng had done, that the Chinese dynamism owes totally to cats. Yes, "Cats"! For their oblivious attitude to their colors. You see, there are obviously democratic cats, autocratic cats, state cats, entrepreneurial cats, meritocratic cats, black cats, white cats, capitalist cats, socialist cats, communist cats, and above anarchistic cats. Unique to Mr. Deng's China, they just don't care. Huyu, being a student of history, yes, History, the real kind that goes back thousands of years, not just hundreds, would wager that Confucius himself, the Great Han Wudi, Tang Taizhong, and Qing Kanxi will all recognize it. It is in another names also called meritocracy. Huyu, as a wise student, also would admit immediately that we still have much to go, and somewhere that has to be blended with a different version of the popular will (different from our wiseman's boat and water musings), be it elections of some form of some scope, or press monitoring measures, to weed out the corrupt. But so far, it beats you version of elections, which ostensibly always elects the non-changers, with the emphasis in fact on the "non". At least that would be true until we finish the catch-up phase. With our brand of meritocracy, deeply rooted in our many years of history, what that simply means is that the right cat for the right job. If you want to be a communist cat and devoting all your life to the benefit of the peasantry at your own expense. Monks in you domains also do that, do they not? By all means please go ahead. If you want to be the capitalist cat and hoard vast amount of wealth, you too can go ahead and be my guest. If you want to be the white cat, and enjoy the self-fancy of the prettiest beauty in the allyhood, nobody is blocking you. If you want to be the meritocratic cat and try to climb the official greasy pole, then again you are welcome - just watch along the way if you take too much unsavory money - in that case a bullet waits for your little forehead. Now you got the picture. Admittedly, that last one is the underbelly of our experience so far. Somehow, it would have to work without having to kill these guys, even if the corrupt ones. One thing obviously missing is our proverbial super duper power cat. Chest-thumbing is resolutely discouraged, and of course, reserved for our true "super duper power" in Hindi land. So other than the super thing. Be the cat of your willing.
