Video: Emperor's Speech Accompanies Unseen Footage of Japan Quake Zone

The above video was filmed on July 16th, 2011 near Ishinomaki, Japan, one of the regions most devastated by the March 2011 tsunami. Four months after the disaster, the video shows both the incredible progress as well as the perilous challenges remaining ahead for the region.

The video includes subtitled audio of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan’s speech on the occasion of the memorial service to commemorate the first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake (March 11, 2012). Filmed and edited by Michael McAteer.
