Flooding your mind with information to combat the flood in your area will only lead to confusion and panic, advises a cartoon series created by Thai animators in order to explain the flood situation in Bangkok and surrounding areas. The videos have gone viral on the Internet, with more 900,0000 views to date.
Created by animator Tagwatchai Saengthamchai in conjunction with Thai PBS and support from flood experts, the videos use appealing animated blue whale characters to explain the flood situation in Thailand, in a simple and easy-to-understand manner.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the series has become one of Thailand's primary alternate sources for information during the disaster, widely regarded as more effective than the conflicting reports disseminated by Thai government officials.
According to news reports, more than 500 people have lost their lives in the floods this year.
Though the situation is dire, what's perhaps most interesting about Saengthamchai's video below is that it offers few false reassurances to a desperate populace. After outlining the potential steps for alleviating the catastrophe, the narration states, "Whichever way, Thailand will be facing floods for no less than a month."
