India Celebrates Republic Day

India celebrated its 62nd Republic Day in New Delhi on January 26, 2011.

India celebrated its 62nd Republic Day with a show of its military might and cultural diversity in the heart of the capital, New Delhi, on January 26, 2011. This national holiday commemorates the creation of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950 and the Purna Swaraj Declaration (or Declaration of the Independence of India) on January 26, 1930. Events were held across the country, amidst security tensions, specifically in Kashmir over efforts by Hindu nationalists to hold a rally in the troubled region's state capital.
