NEW YORK, March 15, 2008 - Asian Contemporary Art Week (ACAW) opens with its first series of talks in a special panel discussion featuring invited artists from Beijing, China: Tie Ying and Xu Zhongmin, moderated by Philippe Koutouzis, director of Asian Art at Marlborough Gallery.
Born in Sichuan Province in 1961, Xu Zhongmin graduated from the Printing Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Academy in 1987. As well as his more recent paintings, Xu Zhongmin has also made a series of works inspired by the decorative arts of the late 18th and 19th centuries. He has used the conventions of Chinese incised lacquer screens to make intricately patterned compositions with scurrying, often slightly grotesque figures amid urban scenes.
Tie Ying is an artist from Beijing, China whose work has been exhibited in China, Sweden, Hong Kong, and the United States.
Philippe Koutouzis is the Director of Asian Art at Marlborough Gallery.
