Photo of the Week: Please breathe, Beijing
The smog and sandstorms have become a notorious feature of life in Beijing. The Government's efforts to to curb air pollution have so far produced mixed results. But there are signs that things are improving. Greenpeace reports that the concentration of PM2.5 fine particle pollution improved by 13 per cent in Beijing in the first three months of 2015 compared with the first quarter of 2014. In Hebei - a province surrounding Beijing and a home of heavy industry and steel-making, PM2.5 fell by 31 per cent.
