Learning About Singapore
The third session of the second run of the Asia in My Pocket featured the developed country of Singapore. It was held last February 23, 2011 at the picturesque facilities of the Embassy of Singapore in Taguig City. The Singapore experience has been complimented and augmented by an appetizing display of Singaporean dishes in a buffet table, which later on served as the guest’s dinner. The event was attended by almost forty (40) people, who are comprised mainly by business professionals, as well as His Excellency Ambassador A. Selverajah.
Ambassador Selverajah, who has been very gracious for opening the Embassy for the event, welcomed the participants in his opening speech. He also shared a brief history of Singapore, citing significant occasions that lead to the country’s current stature. He also emphasized the long-standing good relationship between the Philippines and his country.
The first speaker of the program was Ms. Sherina Chan from the Singapore tourism board. She presented the different activities to try and places to see when one visits Singapore. Her talk was followed by a buffet dinner from Tao Yuan restaurant.
As the participants have been satiated by the delectable dishes, Ms. Suyin Liu imparted her insights and learning from working in Singapore for almost four (4) years. ‘Building one’s own name’ is one of her tips for the participants when working in the country. She also gave some etiquette pointers that she has learned first-hand.
Hon. Quek Hong How of the Economic Development Board of Singapore then gave the gist of the program. He discussed about the business environment of Singapore. He tapped on industry trends, business behavior, and economic relationships and so on.
The program was concluded by the Executive Director of the Asia Society Philippines, Mr. Harvey S. Keh.
