Asia Society's Center for Global Education Appoints Advisory Council Co-Chairs
NEW YORK, February 5, 2016 – The Center for Global Education (CGE) at Asia Society has appointed two co-chairs for its newly formed advisory council: social entrepreneur Ido Leffler and academic leader Yu Lizhong. Launching in the fall of 2016, ASCGE will seek to educate all students for employability and citizenship in a global era.
Leffler, a member of Asia Society’s Board of Trustees, is the co-founder and CEO of Yoobi, a fast-growing school supplies company that donates supplies to classrooms in need with every purchase. He also co-founded Yes To Inc. and Cheeky—two companies which give back a portion of their profits—and co-authored Get Big Fast and Do More Good. Leffler serves on the United Nations Foundation’s Global Entrepreneur Council. He has advised numerous start-ups and businesses around the globe.
Yu became Chancellor of New York University (NYU) Shanghai in 2012, coming from East China Normal University where he served as president from 2006–2012. Yu has also served as president of Shanghai Normal University. His research focuses on environmental processes, environmental change, and sustainable development..
The ASCGE advisory council will meet annually and be comprised of business, education, and nonprofit leaders from Asia and the United States who will advise Asia Society staff on the CGE’s strategic direction. The council will also advise on areas such as raising awareness of the CGE’s work and the importance of global education, developing strategic partnerships, and ensuring sustainability in the CGE’s work.

Leading up to the CGE’s official launch, a series of convenings will be held around the world to discuss challenges and opportunities in global education.
