Analog Video Art for Digital Kids: A Nam June Paik Workshop (Ages 11 and up)
VIEW EVENT DETAILSIn conjunction with the exhibition Nam June Paik: Becoming Robot, Asia Society and Beam Center offer a unique workshop for kids to create live video art using their faces and hands. Led by media artist Allen Riley, the workshop will also include a tour of the exhibition.
Working in small groups, participants will record short video loops of their facial features (eyes/nose/mouth) and arms and legs. They will then learn how to play the loops back, and shuffle the monitors to make different configurations and bodies, creating a new video-body that will be filmed and projected back into the workshop.
Appropriate for children ages 11 and up. Limited capacity; pre-registration required.
Beam Center is a Brooklyn-based community of learning where artists guide young creators. Their hands-on programs in technology, imagination and craft help young people build their character, courage to think for themselves, and capacity for collaboration and invention.
