Actress Tamlyn Tomita to Emcee Southern California 2014 Gala Dinner May 19, 2014 in Los Angeles
Asia Society Southern California celebrates culture, diplomacy, philanthropy, and cuisine at its upcoming annual gala dinner.
The evening honors Ming Hsieh as philanthropist of the Year, Ambassador Sung Kim as Diplomat of the Year, and Madame Sylvia Wu, who will receive the Culinary Legacy Award.
Mayor Eric Garcetti will make special remarks.
Actress Tamlyn Tomita, best known for her movie roles in The Joy Luck Club, Picture Bride, Come See the Paradise, The Day After Tomorrow, and Four Rooms, among others, will be the emcee of the evening.
Prominent chefs and restaurant entrepreneurs will discuss the evolution of Asian and fusion cuisine in Los Angeles:
- Adam Fleischman, Umami Burger
- Jet Tila, Modern Asian Kitchen, Wazuzu and "Melting Pot Food Tours" of Thai Town in LA
- Catherine An, AN Catering, House of AN Group (Crustacean restaurants)
- Patric Kuh, Writer-at-Large/Restaurant Critic, Los Angeles magazine (moderator)
The evening will also include a musical performance by pianist and violinist Ray Ushikubo and a live auction.
