Public Relations/Museum Intern - New York

The Public Relations Intern would have the special opportunity to help promote Asia Society Museum's exhibitions and the organizations arts and culture programming. The intern would be involved in every step of public relations for exhibitions, performances, and cultural programming, including strategizing on press and general public outreach, research, working with and selecting visuals, helping to develop creative press materials, and seeking new media outlets and creative new ways to draw attention to Asia Society arts programming. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in PR and the arts to work with a top communications department and world-class museum that presents innovative contemporary and traditional art exhibitions.

To qualify, you must be a team player, creative, enthusiastic, a highly poised individual with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, writing, editing, and communications skills are required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office a must, and familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Final Cut Pro would helpful. Interest in Asia and Asian art a plus.

External Affairs Intern – New York

The External Affairs team seeks a summer intern to assist with essential functions of our fundraising and membership office. We seek a responsible and proactive candidate with polished phone etiquette and an interest in the operations of a leading not-for-profit cultural institution.

The intern will assist with planning membership events for the fall programming calendar, outreach to potential sponsors and partners, some maintenance of our member database, basic prospect research, and other duties as necessary. The intern will develop key marketable skills for a career in the not-for-profit world, including experience with Raiser's Edge, the leading fundraising software.

Schedule: Summer—start and end dates are flexible. Two to three days a week is preferable. This is an unpaid internship.

Marketing Intern - New York

The Asia Society, a leading non-profit cultural and educational institution, seeks a marketing intern to provide support to the Department of Marketing and Advertising, Marketing and Communications Division.

Responsibilities include updating programming information on websites; compiling program evaluation and museum survey data, proofreading/editing ads and other correspondence; conducting research on potential marketing venues; collaborating with other organizations and museums; general administrative support; and working on special projects.

To qualify, you must be a team player, creative, enthusiastic, a highly poised individual with strong organizational skills and have attention to detail. Excellent writing, editing and communications skills are required. Solid PC skills are also a must (Raiser’s Edge experience is helpful) and an interest in Asia is a plus. We are looking for someone who is currently a student in college and can devote a minimum of three days a week at a minimum of 15 hours a week. We are also looking for a commitment of two semesters. This is an unpaid internship.

Education Web Intern - New York

Asia Society is seeking a volunteer intern with experience in instructional design to help develop and implement an online content strategy for our K-12 youth education audiences. The Education Web Intern will help devise a process to capture Asia Society public programming on historical topics about Asia and contemporary global issues to create online educational resources and interactive features for youth.

Responsibilities: Assist in developing criteria for assessing content for educational use and documenting a protocol for capturing educational content in a variety of media formats. Capture and edit Asia Society public programming through video, audio, and text, identifying and designing supplemental educational content to provide background and context.

Qualifications: Education background or work experience in educational communication and technology, instructional theory, and educational approaches for informal learning environments, especially online. Experience with Internet technologies, HTML, Flash, Photoshop, and web audio/video production required; excellent research and writing skills; background in Asian studies or international affairs preferred.

Schedule: Summer and/or fall—start and end dates flexible. Part-time or full-time. This is an unpaid internship.

Graphic Design Intern - New York

The Communications Department is looking for a reliable and technically skilled volunteer intern.  Self-starter with strong interest and abilities in graphic design and new media.  Interest in Asia and Asia-related issues a plus.

Responsibilities include design of various print materials, including advertisements, flyers, postcards.  Preparing files for printing.  Image/photography research.  New media editing experience relevant to producing slide shows and basic videos with strong design effects a definite plus.  Additional administrative duties.

Must own Mac laptop that can be used at work—ideally with applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Flash and Final Cut Pro. A basic knowledge of layout, form and composition is required, as is a good sense of typography.  Web experience, color-correcting, and retouching will be helpful.

Hours are flexible, but a minimum of three days a week (not necessarily full days) is required.  Please indicate the days and hours you are available to work. This is an unpaid internship.

Interns – San Francisco

Asia Society Northern California presents some 50 public-education programs annually that explore Asian cultural, economic and political affairs. We offer long and short-term (minimum of 8 weeks) internships with opportunities to focus on the following areas: membership research and reports; development planning; media outreach; program design and support; and office administration. Interns work closely with development, administrative, and program staff to plan and execute a wide variety of public programs and development initiatives.  Interns gain valuable, hands-on experience in non-profit management and Asian affairs.

Qualifications: knowledge and curiosity about Asian and Asian American issues, culture, and Asian-focused activities; excellent communication, research and writing skills; strong organization and project management skills, with ability to focus on details and meet deadlines; flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects concurrently in highly-paced, entrepreneurial environment; ability to take initiative and work independently.

Seniors, recent graduates, and graduate students in Asian and Asian-American studies, business, history, the social sciences, or related fields preferred; office experience preferred but not required.

Schedule: we ask a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week for a minimum of 8 weeks.  Though internships are unpaid, interns are encouraged to participate in all programs offered by the Center during the internship.

For applicants (including non-students) who are not able to meet this time commitment, we can often offer more flexible volunteer opportunities as well.
