On Tuesday, Asia Society formally awarded The New York Times South Asia bureau chief Ellen Barry the 2017 Osborn Elliott Prize for Excellence in Journalism on Asia. Barry won for her series of stories exploring why so many women in India have left the workforce. 

The award was presented by the Oz Prize jury chair Marcus Brauchli and was followed by a discussion between Barry and Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait.
